Experienced captains from the Annapolis School of Seamanship are coming to the Providence Boat Show to lead their popular series of free seminars designed to be your gateway to boating. The mix of sessions offered at this year’s show will meet the needs of all levels of boaters--whether you want to learn how to maintain your diesel, master important techniques like stress-free docking and line handling, learn about iNavigation and AIS, or even get some sage advice on how to select the boat that’s right for you. Confident Captain Seminars

Get a solid boating education in a special series of seminars with Confident Captain/Ocean Pros. This Rhode Island-based maritime training facility is dedicated to providing the best possible training, service, and consultation for all mariners—including both recreational boaters and professional captains and yachtmasters. Boating Safety Challenge Exam

Thanks to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, you can take the Challenge Exam to earn your Certificate of Boating Safety Education during your visit to the Providence Boat Show. The Challenge Exam will be offered on Saturday, February 6, from 11 am to 3 pm. But before you take the exam, you’ll have to complete the online study course offered by Boat-Ed (see more below). The course covers a range of topics—from safety instructions to boat handling to reading the weather—and prepares you for a variety of situations you could find yourself in while on the water. Because educated boaters are safer boaters, completing a course and receiving your boating safety certification can also earn you a discount on your boat and PWC insurance. Turning Your Passion into a Career

The youth of today are our workforce of tomorrow. Visit the Youth Boat Build at the Providence Boat Show to meet young people from across the Ocean State who are turning their passion for boats and building into high-tech, high-paying career paths in engineering, design, advanced composites manufacturing, and the marine trades. You’ll meet students from marine-trades programs at Chariho Career & Technical Center and Warwick Area Career & Technical Center, who will do a live boat-build during the show. You can also meet with the staff of the New England Institute of Technology and the IYRS School of Technology and Trades, to learn about the leading programs at these two schools that prepare individuals for careers in the marine and composites industries. You might come to the show to look for gear and equipment, but leave inspired about a new career direction for yourself or your children!

Women on the Water

Join Confident Captain/Ocean Pros for a Premium Seminar on Women on the Water. This special two-hour program is taught by women for women and provides answers to all your boating questions in a friendly, stress-free setting. The course is designed for female boaters of all experience levels—whether you are just getting your feet wet or you have a few seasons under your belt. Come learn about navigation, docking, emergency procedures, and more. This exciting and informative program will cover the fundamentals while still leaving ample opportunity to ask questions.
