VIP Ribbon Cutting to Open Providence Boat Show on Friday
January 31st, 2018 - Show Offers One-Stop Shopping and Family Fun for Boating Enthusiasts

The three-day Providence Boat Show presented by Washington Trust kicks off Friday, Feb. 2 with an 11:45 a.m. ribbon cutting at the Rhode Island Convention Center show entrance, prior to the show officially opening its doors at noon. Participating in the ceremony with state and event officials will be the show’s star attraction, New England Patriots defensive lineman and two-time Super Bowl Champion Jarvis Green. Green is due to make appearances at the show on Friday and Saturday, cooking up his Oceans 97 Shrimp during ongoing Sea-to-Table demonstrations and signing autographs.

The show, operated by Rhode Island Marine Trades Association (RIMTA), runs from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., respectively, on Friday and Saturday and closes early on “Super Bowl Sunday” (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) in order to accommodate football fans eager to watch the evening game.

The Providence Boat Show offers one-stop shopping for hundreds of power, sail and paddle craft as well as equipment and products from some 140 exhibitors. Show goers can shop by type, brand or exhibitor; see new products for the first time; and take advantage of show specials.

At the same time, they can experience an eclectic mix of special attractions and educational seminars. At the Washington Trust Pavilion, where Jarvis Green will be joining other renowned chefs, one can learn knife skills, oyster shucking, how to fillet a tuna and even how Hotel Viking’s chef makes Bloody Mary Tuna Crudo. There is also the ArtSea Gallery for purchasing works of local artists; “Reel Island” for fishing fans; and the Miss Geico display for admiring the 50-foot offshore racing boat that can reach speeds in excess of 200 mph.

Popular for the young and young at heart is the Indoor Pool for remote-control bumper boats and an inspiring fleet of model boats that replicate the their real counterparts, thanks to the Marine Modelers Club of New England. Participating in this year’s “Youth Boat Build” will be students from Warwick Area Career & Tech, Chariho Career & Tech, North Providence Middle School Marine Academy, and North Providence High School Marine Tech Students. The students will construct plywood “stitch and glue” boats with supplies donated by Jamestown Distributors and pieces manufactured on the schools’ automated CNC machines. (A sailing dinghy, a canoe and a kayak will be displayed at various stages of construction over the course of the show.)

Providence Boat Show Set for Super Bowl Weekend
January 10th, 2018 - Highlights Include Appearance by Former New England Patriots Defensive Lineman Jarvis Green

Scheduled for Super Bowl Weekend, the three-day Providence Boat Show presented by Washington Trust plans on joining in the spirit of the “Big Event” with an appearance by former New England Patriots Defensive Lineman and two-time Super Bowl Champion Jarvis Green. Green will be cooking up his Oceans 97 Shrimp at the show’s “Sea to Table” demonstrations on Friday and Saturday (February 2 and 3) and signing autographs. The show, operated by Rhode Island Marine Trades Association (RIMTA), starts Friday (February 2) and offers one-stop shopping at the Rhode Island Convention Center for every kind of boating enthusiast.

“The Providence Boat Show is the other Big Event for the weekend,” said RIMTA’s CEO Wendy Mackie, adding that the 25-year-old expo is the longest running of its kind in New England. “For fans of boating, it’s a ‘must-do’ on the calendar every February, and for those who are also football fans, there’s plenty of time to fit in a visit to the show and prepare for and enjoy the Super Bowl.”

Exhibitors at the Providence Boat Show will feature hundreds of new and used boats, from cruising and fishing boats to StandUp Paddleboards, jet skis and sailing dinghies, while dozens of exhibitors will showcase a wide range of boating equipment, electronics, gear and clothing to fit every need.

Other highlights include:

● “Reel Island” for the experience of reeling in a big fish on a fishing simulator and learning inside tricks from Big Game Sport Fishing;
● Educational Seminars hosted by Annapolis School of Seamanship, featuring theProgressive Boat School Pool for practicing docking with radio controlled boats;
● Miss Geico 50-foot offshore racing boat, which can reach speeds in excess of 200 mph!;
● Other renowned Chefs at the Sea to Table Culinary Presentations;
● Knife Skills Fillet Class, Oyster Shucking Master Class, and Tuna Filet Demos

In another nod to Super Bowl fans, organizers have extended show hours to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and will close the show at 3 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday, well before game time.

More About Jarvis Green:

Green, who divides his time between Providence, Rhode Island and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, embarked on his career in the shrimp industry following a nine-year NFL career during which he was part of the New England Patriots Super Bowl XXXVIII and XXXIX winning teams. In 2015, Green started Oceans 97 (97 is his Patriots jersey number) and has built the company from the ground up, offering U.S. wild-caught gourmet shrimp with special sauces that he has created.

In addition to Oceans 97, Green also runs the Jarvis Green Foundation, which he launched in 2006. The foundation, which has numerous partners in New England, focuses on children and teaching them how to have an overall healthy lifestyle, including what they eat, as well as providing resources to single mothers who have been affected by natural disasters.

As part of the Sea To Table Cooking Demonstrations Jarvis Green, on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2nd and Feb. 3rd, will be featuring his delicious shrimp from his Oceans97 Company named after his Patriots jersey number 97.
In between cooking demonstration he will also have a booth at the show promoting his Oceans97 Shrimp and will be signing some autographs.

Jarvis Green was a defensive lineman for the New England Patriots from 2002-2009, during which time he was part of two Super Bowl Championships. He continued his NFL career with the Denver Broncos and the Houston Texans. Following his NFL Career he created his Oceans97 Company, a Louisiana wholesaler of shrimp to restaurants and other retailers in the United States and Canada.
Green, a Louisiana native, said his business grew out of a lifelong passion for seafood. Oceans97 is primarily based now in Boston. "During my time with the Patriots I developed a great appreciation for the Massachusetts seafood industry...we are proud to be a Boston company", states Green.
